So, I don't really have a new line of greeting cards. Cth'ulhu Cth'ards was my own little April Fools joke, as evidenced by the series of links at the end of yesterday's post. All references revolved around the creations and companions of H. P. Lovecraft, an influential American author of horror and sci-fi stories.

My apologies to those who congratulated me on the new gig - to be fair I fully confessed to anyone that did, because I think pranks lose their flavor when you drag them out.

Now, if anyone wants to commission me for a series of Lovecraft-inspired greeting cards....

Returning visitors may have noticed a few remodels around here. Or possibly the fact the whole house was bulldozed and replaced by a better, bigger one.

My main goal with the Chrislowrance.net redesign was to make it more informative. To that end, you'll now find a brief bio, more comprehensive resume and separate pages for the two "schools" of creative work I do. You'll also find links to my presence across the web on this homepage. Friend, follow, join, contact or whatever else it is you people do to other people on these new-fangled social sites.

Prints for Sale!

Here are some photos of the two prints I showed in Eros 5 last week, which you can now buy!

Each is a super-high quality digital print on HP Semi Gloss Paper in Fade-Resistant UV Ink, and come in a sturdy wood frame with thick glass, decorated in "Hot Glue Baroque" style (hot glue, spray paint, metallic purple ink and a moisture-proof sealant). These frames are hand-made and unique. Strong wire hangers are included.

"Young Americans," a comment on U.S. hipster culture and self-censorship, is 12" x 14" and was made exclusively for Eros 5. The frame is 13.5" x 16.5".

"Strange Love" is 10" x 10" and first appeared as the cover of YES! Weekly on February 14 2008. It's mounted on dark green vinyl in a 13.5" x 16.5" frame.

Well, I'm married, NC is a blue state and America elected a progressive black president named Barack Obama. Wow.

Before going on my honeymoon, I left YES! Weekly with three covers for the Wenesday issue. Here's the one they should have run, since Obama won:

They opted to run the third, despite the results: Since it was just a combination of the above two, I won't bother showing it off.

Anyhow, I'm back and open for commissions!

I designed this cover, based on two photos and an idea by Daniel Bayer, back in November (click it to embiggen). Today I got a big shiny plaque from the Southern Advertising Publishers Association. It won first place for Front Page design in the 2008 SAPA awards.

Well, not quite. Here's a couple of B+W's for an article on summer reading. The books reviewed were about a saint, a biker gang, NC politics and sassy Southern women. I also took the chance to experiment with Illustrator's brush tool.

Sometimes you get a fun topic to illustrate, like a band you like, or a juicy scandal.

Other times, you get "involuntary annexation."

And then, you make lemonade.
